RADIANT IMPRINTS
featuring choreography by Nomi Bachar, Valerie Norman , Kathryn Sullivan & Natasa
Trifan
February 24 - 27 at Merce Cunningham Studio
InnerLandscapes Dance Theatre, a collective comprised of choreographers
Nomi Bachar, Valerie Norman , Kathryn Sullivan & Natasa Trifan
, presents its latest evening of new work and revivals, RADIANT IMPRINTS.
Al l six of the works on the program deal with the permanence of the
traces of existence. Renown composer Bruce Lazarus* performs live music
between each piece. Performances of this multimedia adventure with
music, video (by Chiaki Watanabe), text and song begin February 24th
at Merce Cunningham Studio.
On the program, Nomi Bachar presents two
World Premieres. The first is "Transparent
Weights," a solo about negative attachments accumulated over a lifetime
and shedding them. Performed by Bachar, the piece features costumes by Natasha
Von Rosenchilde and live music by Nina Spiro performed on shamanic and native
America flutes. Bachar also offers the premiere of "Divine Beggar," exploring
the dual nature of man, the divine and profane, and a surprising metamorphosis
due to unconditional love. Performed by Bachar, Michael Buoni, and Caitlin
Mulhern, the piece features pianist Yvonne Troxler and vocalist Al ma Moshonov.
Kathryn
Sullivan reprises her 2000 piece "Illusion," a study
in self-doubt, denial, and acceptance of one’s being, flaws and all.
She will also present the World Premiere of "Three women," in
which a trio of women explore how they differ at their individual stages
of life, yet how similar they remain in essence. Using the archetypes
of maiden, mother, and mentor, this biographical piece is performed in
collaboration with renown composer Bruce Lazarus* and features visuals
by Wendy Mark.
Natasa Trifan offers the World Premiere of "White" showing
us human fragility and human strength. "White" offers a mental
space and time in which external and internal limitations become
sources of freedom. The piece features original music by Sylvia Mincewicz
and live video projection by Chiaki Watanabe.
Valerie Norman presents Closer, a new work with six
dancers set to original music by Israeli composer Al on Nechushtan. The
piece explores patterns of intimacy and distance in relationships.
InnerLandscapes Dance Theatre was founded in 1998 by Nomi Bachar as
a collective of independent artists committed to experimentation and
creating new forms of expression through dance theater. Al though choreographers
each come from different backgrounds, they share a common vision of
creating work that depicts the complex layers of the human experience.
Past productions include Evidence of Light at the Joyce SoHo, Love
Notes/Death Threats at Merce Cunningham Studio, and Journeys to the
Known at Raw Space. For more information visit innerlandscapesdt.com.
RADIANT IMPRINTS will be performed February 24 & 25 at 9pm and February
26 & 27 at 8:00pm . Tickets are $20 / $15 students. Merce Cunningham Studio
